Coldplay in Dublin FAQ: Approach routes, tickets, setlist, weather, stage times, etc (2024)

Coldplay have already arrived in Dublin for four much-anticipated shows in Croke Park on Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday.

The English band bring their Music of the Spheres World Tour to Ireland more than two years after it kicked off in March 2022. Since then, over eight million tickets have been sold.

Playing here last in 2017, fans have eagerly been awaiting the show since tickets went on sale last year.

Here is everything you need to know about Coldplay’s Dublin shows.

What can we expect

Fans can expect to eat well, with the Music of the Spheres tour being described as a visual feast. This is down to masterful animations and immersive lighting. The show is structured into four acts, spaced over three stages dotted across the stadium.

RTÉ's John Byrne, who attended the show in Amsterdam, said that those present are "made to feel a part of the experience rather than being mere spectators. You're not here to merely observe, but to participate."

What will they play?

Looking at Coldplay's set list from their latest show in Vienna, fans can expect a number of the band's well known hits— The Scientist, Viva La Vida, Hymn for the Weekend, Yellow, Clocks, A Sky Full of Stars and more.

Some of the group's newer, EDM songs will also feature, though reviews of the show have said there is a noticeable lull during these moments and other less known songs.

What are the timings?

Support acts Aby Coulibaly and Maggie Rogers are expected on stage at 6.30pm and 7.15pm respectively, with Coldplay’s two-hour set expected to kick off around 8.30pm.

Are tickets still available?

Nope – tickets were snapped up shortly after they went on sale last July, leaving many fans disappointed. At the time, many expressed frustration with presales, long Ticketmaster queues and packages costing up to €987.50.

Demand was so high that the band added on the Sunday and Monday night shows, but there are still plenty of disappointed fans out there.

If your Instagram feed is anything like mine, you will have seen plenty of stories sharing competitions to win tickets for the shows and desperate fans still trying to get their hands on tickets by any means necessary.

Though Ticketmaster do offer a resale service, AIB has issued advice on how not to get scammed in the days leading up to the shows. They suggest being wary of tickets sold across social media. Twitter, in particular, has become a hotspot for scams around any gigs.

The bank also says to not pay for tickets by way of bank transfer or card with the promise that tickets will be delivered. You wouldn’t want to be holding your breath to get them.

Getting there

For those coming from Cork, get on the M8 from the N8. Follow this road onto the M7 before entering the N7 in Kildare. Make your way on to the M50 in Dublin, bearing in mind there are tolls on this road, and continue into the city centre. Continue on the R135 before taking Iona Road to St Joseph’s Avenue and onto Jones’ Road.

If driving, it’s worth noting that there is no car park onsite at the stadium but there are limited parking options in the immediate vicinity of the stadium.

O’Connell Schools’ Supervised Car Park, North Circular Road, is open two hours before events in Croke Park and one hour after. In the city centre, Q-Park at The Spire car park on Marlborough Street and Q-Park Parnell Centre on Parnell Street are open 24 hours a day.

Due to the lack of parking, concert-goers are encouraged to carpool or take public transport where possible.

Dublin Bus routes serving Croke Park include 1, H1, H2, H3, 7, 11, 13, 14, 16, 27/A/B, 29A, 31/A/B, 32, 33, 40/B/D, 41/B/C, 42, 43, 44, 53, 123, 130.

If arriving by train from Cork to Heuston, the Luas Red Line goes from outside the station in Dublin and stops at Connolly Station. From here, it is just a 15 minute walk to Croke Park. The stadium is a similar walking distance from both Parnell and Marlborough stops on the Luas Green Line.

Alight at Connolly Station or Clontarf Road if heading on the Dart and alight at Connolly or Drumcondra for commuter trains.

Those heading to the concert should be aware that road closures will be in operation and taxis and private coaches will not be permitted to enter the cordon.

Approach routes

Check your tickets and follow the colour coordinating with the area of the stadium you need to get to:

BLUE ROUTE (Hogan Stand): Enter via Jones Road and Russell Street.

RED ROUTE (Cusack Stand): Enter via St James Avenue and Foster Terrace.

YELLOW ROUTE (Davin Stand): Enter via St Margaret’s Terrace.

GREEN ROUTE (PITCH A): Enter via Josephs Avenue.

RED ROUTE (PITCH B & C): Enter via St James Avenue and Foster Terrace.

How’s the weather looking?

Despite all of the rain over the last few days, the weather isn’t looking too bad for the four shows at the time of writing, but as we all know, this could change.

According to Met Eireann, temperatures will stay between 13 and 16 degrees over the four nights with generally clear conditions. Sunday evening is looking like there will be rain.

Regardless of the weather, MCD have said the event will take place “rain, hail or shine” so it may be wise to invest in a poncho.

What can I not bring?

Leave the usual suspects at home, such as professional cameras and audio recording equipment, bags larger than A4 size, alcohol, glass bottles, cans, flares and selfie sticks.

Collapsable/camping chairs and stools and garden furniture are not permitted in the venue.

If it does rain on Sunday, be aware that umbrellas are not permitted in the stadium.

Flagpoles are not allowed but banners, flags or posters can be brought in once they fit inside bags when folded away.
